Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani attended the meeting in New York entitled \u201cPromoting Europe-Gulf Partnerships for Regional Security and Prosperity\u201d, opened by a video message of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the speeches of the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar and the President of Finland. Among the participants, several Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers from Europe and the Gulf region, as well as the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi.<\/p>\n
The event, which took place within the framework of the Europe Gulf Forum launched by Antenna Group and the Atlantic Council, was aimed at discussing concrete policies and promoting joint initiatives between Europe and the Gulf countries, with a focus on mitigating the repercussions of the conflict in the Middle East and on the conditions for launching post-conflict projects in the economic, energy, infrastructure and security sectors.<\/p>\n
In the face of the current crises in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, Minister Tajani confirmed Italy\u2019s commitment to freedom of navigation through the ASPIDES, Atalanta and IRINI missions. The Minister for Foreign Affairs has renewed his appeal to all EU countries to contribute to the strengthening of the ASPIDES mission, which plays an even more essential role in the face of the crisis in the Strait of Bab al-Mandab.<\/p>\n
The Minister for Foreign Affairs pointed out that the collaboration between Europe and the Gulf also includes logistical, port, energy and digital connections. That is why Italy is determined to advance projects such as the IMEC Corridor, to connect Europe, the Gulf and Asian markets. Tajani also recalled Italy\u2019s commitment, at both bilateral and European levels, to strengthening EU-Gulf relations and expanding the network of free trade agreements on the model of what is being negotiated with the United Arab Emirates. The Minister indicated the forthcoming EU-Gulf Cooperation Council summit as an opportunity to relaunch the long-running negotiations for an agreement between the two bodies.<\/p>\n
