After Turin and Bari, today it is the turn of Rome and Central Italy. Thank you for accepting our invitation in such large numbers. Your response has been extraordinary: there are more than 1,200 of you!

Parliamentary commitments prevent me from being with you today, but I nevertheless wanted to convey my appreciation and heartfelt thanks. You are the true driving force behind this major national export strategy. You and your companies, through which you invest, manufacture and create jobs, contribute to the well-being of our citizens and of Italy as a whole.

Today will be another day of practical, hands-on work. We have already scheduled more than 600 meetings with the Heads of our Embassies’ commercial offices and experts from the Italian Trade Agency, SACE, SIMEST and CDP. We have also arranged for a Ministry service desk at the venue to schedule further meetings. I wanted all our Ambassadors to join remotely, along with, for the first time, the Directors of our Italian Cultural Institutes. They are ready to help you. Every business leader will have an opportunity to take part, and everyone will be heard and supported!

Despite wars, tariffs and energy crises, Italy’s exports continue to surge. In 2025, our exports reached a record €643 billion. In the first seven months of 2026, exports grew by 4.6%, almost twice the European average. Our target is €700 billion by 2027. I expect Central Italy to make a key contribution. With the strongest export growth — up 11.6% in 2025 — and this positive trend continuing into 2026, we are heading in the right direction!

Today, we want to develop new strategies tailored specifically to your regions. We work every day to ensure that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs serves you ever more effectively. As part of the reform, I established a Directorate-General for Growth and an Export Operations Room working around the clock. I also wanted to expand our internationalisation team to include Unioncamere, with which we have signed an important cooperation agreement in recent months. Today, we are launching a new app under the Export Plan. It is another practical tool to ensure that contacts, opportunities and resources from across Italy’s national support network, for every market of interest, are always at your fingertips, on your mobile phone. Less red tape, more answers and more services for businesses!

Our watchword is diversification. The United States and Europe remain essential markets, but I have sought to step up our efforts across all markets with the greatest potential. Together with Confindustria and more than a hundred companies, we were the first to visit Argentina and Brazil following the European Union’s agreement with Mercosur. We are giving fresh impetus to our partnerships with India and Asia, the Gulf, Africa and the Balkans. We have initiatives underway and planned on every continent.

We are at the forefront of efforts to promote peace and freedom of navigation, from the Strait of Hormuz to the Red Sea, because a country whose prosperity depends on exports needs safe seas and open markets. The Government is working to contain the cost of energy and all other essential inputs for our industries, such as fertilisers.

For the first time, Italy has a fully fledged foreign policy on critical raw materials. We have already signed dozens of agreements in this field, most recently with the United States and Argentina. We are now working on a similar political agreement with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, an important African partner in the Mattei Plan, rich in critical minerals that are crucial to our businesses.

Today, we are also placing innovation and new technologies, starting with artificial intelligence, at the heart of our discussions. More than 100 start-ups and innovative companies are here with us. We want to give you the best possible support! We are equally committed to providing the strongest possible support to all our cultural industries.

Our journey through Italy’s regions does not end here: the work continues. I look forward to seeing you all in Milan on 17 December for the National Export Conference.

No Italian business leader operating abroad should ever feel alone. This is neither a promise nor a slogan. It remains the hallmark of my political work to support the growth of our businesses and, with it, the prosperity of Italy and its citizens.

You can count on the Government, and you can count on me!

Antonio Tajani

I extend a warm welcome to all the business leaders attending the third and final stop of “Export Goals”.
