The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Maria Tripodi, has just concluded the first leg of a business mission to Latin America, following up on Minister Tajani\u2019s mission last September. In Lima, the Undersecretary opened the first Italy-Peru Business Forum, aimed at strengthening the presence of Italian companies in a market characterized by significant growth prospects for public and private investment.<\/p>\n
Undersecretary Tripodi explained: \u201cThe solid economic and commercial ties between our countries are driven by an Italian business community that is deeply integrated into the country\u2019s social and productive fabric.\u201d She highlighted the value of the energy, mining, and agricultural sectors; identified infrastructure and transport as key areas for a decisive step forward in the partnership; and pointed to scientific and technological cooperation as a means to strengthen bilateral relations.<\/p>\n
During the mission, Undersecretary Tripodi co-chaired the sixth meeting of the Italy-Peru Political Consultation Mechanism alongside Eric Anderson Machado, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Peru. Discussions focused on bilateral political cooperation, economic and commercial relations, investment and strategic projects, development cooperation and disaster risk management, as well as collaboration in combating transnational crime. Topics such as cultural relations and tourism, consular matters, and air connections were also addressed, alongside key regional and global issues.<\/p>\n
The dynamism of the bilateral economic relations between Italy and Peru is confirmed by the latest data: in 2025, trade volume reached \u20ac1.69 billion, a 19% increase compared to 2024. In the first half of 2026, trade reached \u20ac922 million, marking a further 10.2% increase over the same period of the previous year and consolidating a positive trend that has led to a doubling of trade volumes compared to 2019.<\/p>\n
