The Italian representative also pointed out Italy\u2019s firm pledge to seek a peaceful solution to the crisis, in keeping with the Arab League plan of 22 January last. \u201cItaly and its European partners have already adopted numerous measures aimed at increasing the pressure on Damascus, first and foremost with the activation of individual sanctions on those responsible for the repression\u201d, Bernardini said, reiterating the Syrian authorities\u2019 obligation to allow access to humanitarian organisations.<\/P>

Minister Giulio Terzi, the day after the Arab League decision, \u201chailed\u201d its foreign ministers\u2019 proposal to send a joint League\/UN peacekeeping force to Syria to \u201cmonitor application on the ground of a ceasefire\u201d. \u201cItaly\u201d, Terzi, \u201ccontinues to support the Arab League\u2019s efforts to seek a peaceful and democratic solution to the Syrian crisis\u201d.
