Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani will attend the Summit of Heads of State and Government within the framework of the Berlin Process tomorrow morning in Budva, Montenegro, on behalf of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The Summit is being organised by the Montenegrin Presidency.

The Berlin Process, launched in 2014, is one of the main instruments for supporting regional cooperation amongst the six countries of the Western Balkans, the implementation of reforms and their path towards European integration. At the Summit, which is the initiative’s main annual political event, Minister Tajani will reaffirm Italy’s strong support for the European perspective of the Western Balkans, a strategic priority of Italian foreign policy and a vital investment in the stability, security and prosperity of the region and the entire continent.

The Minister will emphasise the importance of the Berlin Process as a means of strengthening economic cooperation, connectivity and regional security, including through the consolidation of the Common Regional Market and the gradual integration of applicant countries into the European Union’s policies and instruments. It will also reiterate the need to speed up the path to EU accession, building on the progress made in reforms, whilst ensuring that tensions in the region do not hinder the process of regional reconciliation and European integration.
