Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani will be in Istanbul today to take part in a 4+4 ministerial meeting on the Middle East and major international crises, organised by Germany and Türkiye. The meeting will bring together the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Italy, France, Germany and the United Kingdom on the European side, and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the R4 countries: Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Egypt. The meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss Iran and the Strait of Hormuz; tensions in Yemen and the Red Sea; freedom of navigation; and developments in the West Bank, Gaza and the Middle East.

Minister Tajani will take part in the meeting, sharing Italy’s experience in the region across a range of areas, starting with its contribution to missions safeguarding freedom of navigation and security in the wider Mediterranean – from ASPIDES in the Red Sea, to Atalanta in the Indian Ocean and Irini – and to humanitarian aid projects in Gaza. Italy is committed to safeguarding the prospect of a Two-State Solution, having also hosted a meeting of the Global Alliance for the Two-State Solution in Rome in August 2026.
