Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs Maria Tripodi attended the Italy\u2013Canada Business Forum in Toronto on behalf of Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani. The Forum was organised by the Italian Foreign Ministry, in cooperation with the National Armaments Directorate of the Ministry of Defence and the Italian Trade Agency. The Forum\u2019s proceedings comprised a plenary session, featuring contributions from representatives of CDP, SACE, Simest and Unioncamere, among others, and three thematic roundtables focusing on advanced industry; energy, mining and infrastructure; and defence, aerospace and cybersecurity. These were followed by a series of B2B meetings between companies.<\/p>\n
\u201cCanada is a particularly important partner for Italy. We share an interest in strengthening economic security, diversifying sources of supply and developing new industrial and technological synergies. The complementarity of our economies, together with the opportunities offered by CETA, creates favourable conditions for developing new high-value-added partnerships. Canada is a priority country under our Export Action Plan. We want to translate this strategic alignment into greater opportunities for growth, investment and competitiveness for Italian businesses,\u201d Undersecretary Tripodi said in her remarks.<\/p>\n
Opportunities to strengthen this partnership are also reflected in the positive performance of Italian exports, which reached EUR 444 billion in the first eight months of 2026, representing a 5% increase in value compared with the same period in 2025. This growth was supported by positive performance in both non-EU markets (+5.9%) and EU markets (+4.1%). This positive trend is also evident in the Canadian market, where Italian exports reached EUR 3.82 billion in the first seven months of 2026, an increase of 4.2% compared with the same period of the previous year.<\/p>\n
