The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edmondo Cirielli, spoke today at the Farnesina to open the proceedings on the second day of the half-yearly meeting of the Tallinn Mechanism, the multilateral initiative established in 2023 with the aim of coordinating civilian assistance to Ukraine in the cyber sector, for which Italy holds the presidency from July to December 2026.

In his speech, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed Italy’s support for Ukraine, emphasising in particular that the cyber resilience of Ukrainian institutions, infrastructure and public services is an essential component of international support for Kyiv. Cirielli also highlighted the value of the Mechanism as a practical tool for coordination between partner countries, aimed at making the assistance provided more effective. The priorities of the Italian Presidency for the second half of 2026 include strengthening operational procedures, increasing the involvement of the private sector, and extending the Mechanism to new Member States and observers.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for direct dialogue with the Ukrainian authorities, attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Droniuk, and Deputy Minister for Digital Transformation, Olha Krevska, to whom Cirielli reiterated the importance Italy attaches to cooperation in the face of growing hybrid and cyber threats.
