Rome \u2013 Minister Tajani, there have been around twenty bomb threats in European airspace in the last few hours alone. Around ten of them in Italy. Chaos in the skies. Are we facing a hybrid war? How will you combat it?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been dealing with hybrid warfare at least since the start of the conflict on the ground in Ukraine. Together with our European allies, we are taking all the necessary countermeasures. We have also done so at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with a Directorate-General for Security and a dedicated operations centre.\u201d<\/p>\n

Who\u2019s behind it? All the suspicions point to the East.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPro-Russian hackers have already claimed responsibility for the attacks on supermarkets in the last few days. As yet, we haven’t got any evidence regarding these latest warnings. We are well aware that Moscow will never declare military war on Europe. But we also know that it will attempt to destabilise, create panic and cause disruption to everyday life. There has even been talk of hospitals being at risk: now, that would truly be a criminal act.\u201d<\/p>\n

But what is the government doing to tackle the emergency?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAll the ministries are involved. The Cybersecurity Agency and our intelligence services. The focus is primarily on prevention.\u201d<\/p>\n

The US election. Why did Trump lose?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s not my place to comment on American affairs. That said, whilst nothing changes for us, the United States confirms itself as the world\u2019s largest democracy. And therein lies the difference between democracies and autocracies: in the former, governments and majorities change; in the latter, they do not. Why did he lose? In recent months, America has been grappling with many questions regarding the war in Iran, which we neither endorsed nor supported. Perhaps it wasn\u2019t the war the Americans would have wanted to fight. The economic crisis did the rest.\u201d<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ve never been Trump supporters,” you said. But what about that \u2018Make America Great Again\u2019 cap you were photographed wearing a while back?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe story of the cap needs to be clarified: I was attending the American conference on Gaza, the Board of Peace, as an observer. They gave me that red cap as a gift, but I left it on the table. I never took it to Italy, let alone ever wore it. Culturally, I\u2019m a world away from the MAGA movement. And besides, I\u2019m the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Is this the twilight of sovereignty? Or was it merely a blip, with a possible resurgence of the nationalists in the AfD in Germany, the FN in France and perhaps Vannacci in Italy? The focus now shifts to Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Spanish elections will take place first. And I am convinced that the People\u2019s Party will win them. We, the European People\u2019s Party, are the alternative to extremism on both the left and the right, in France as well as in Germany and Italy. Populist tendencies are bound to cause nothing but harm.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meloni has written a letter to the President of the European Council, Costa, calling on Europe to appoint a negotiator for peace in Ukraine by December, or risk becoming irrelevant. Rome has been excluded from the recent peace summits in Brussels.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cEurope must speak through a single voice if it is to carry weight in negotiations, not just on Ukraine, but at every negotiating table. Our only hope is to remain united. Otherwise, we will remain an idol with feet of clay.\u201d<\/p>\n

By the way, what happened to the thirteenth Italian aid package for Kyiv?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIn the coming days, Minister Crosetto will go to COPASIR to present it. It will go ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the Lega\u2019s reservations?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe need the signatures of three ministers: Defence, Foreign Affairs and the Economy. I\u2019ve already signed it. And I imagine Crosetto has too. The aid will arrive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Budget. Even centre-right governors are up in arms over the cuts to healthcare. Not to mention education. Do you intend to amend the bill?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a good budget. It includes support for the middle class, young people, the elderly and businesses. As is always the case, the budget may be amended during the parliamentary debate. We intend to do so, particularly with regard to pensions and education. Also with regard to the pension schemes for the police and the armed forces.\u201d<\/p>\n

End-of-life care remains a thorn in the side of the centre-right. At the Council of Ministers meeting, you challenged the law in force in Veneto.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted it to be recorded in the minutes that, in Forza Italia\u2019s view, national legislation is needed so as to prevent the fragmentation of regional laws, some of which even contradict one another, on such a sensitive issue. Furthermore, the Constitutional Court\u2019s rulings must be implemented. These decisions are a matter for the Parliament.\u201d<\/p>\n

When will the general election take place?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in favour of the parliamentary term running its natural course, that is, until after next summer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Is the alliance with Vannacci now over?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a centre-right leader. He decided to leave and broaden the scope of the broad coalition. We didn\u2019t kick him out.\u201d<\/p>\n

And what will you do when this is over? After the general election?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a party activist. I\u2019m keen to see the party win and to uphold the values we believe in. It\u2019s not the rank that matters to me. I\u2019ll continue to play my part even after the general election. The next Forza Italia congress will decide.\u201d<\/p>\n

Will the Berlusconi brothers go into politics?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe follow Forza Italia with interest; they are an important point of reference for us. I don\u2019t think they want to get actively involved in politics.
