Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re attended the ministerial meeting of the International Contact Group (ICG) on Venezuela on the sidelines of the 74th UN General Assembly in New York yesterday.<\/p>\n
In her address, the Deputy Minister expressed her \u201cdeep concern at the deterioration in the political and humanitarian situation in Venezuela, as underscored also in the report by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet\u201d. She therefore called for greater international coordination to support negotiations between the parties, \u201cthe only way to achieve free, democratic and transparent presidential elections\u201d. Del Re said that \u201cItaly confirms its commitment in the ICG to give its full support to Norway\u2019s mediation efforts\u201d, and expressed a wish that negotiations which began in Barbados would resume immediately.<\/p>\n
