Ladies and Gentlemen,<\/p>\n
I wish to express my heartfelt welcome to the Farnesina and thank all\u00a0 those people who have collaborated with us to organise\u00a0 this beautiful event, and in\u00a0 particular I wish to thank:<\/p>\n
– Dr. Paolo Marchesini<\/p>\n
– Dr. Renato Fontana<\/p>\n
– Dr. Giovanna Talocci<\/p>\n
– Minister Massimo Bray. <\/i>Any individual who served as a Minister, will always be a Minister to me.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n
I wish to express my warm greetings above all\u00a0 to the new young\u00a0 talents of Italian design to whom today we will “give the floor”.
As the title of the event suggests, we intend to use our creativity to explore the relation between our language and the world of planners and designers. Thirty works ,\u00a0 selected by\u00a0 the\u00a0 Italianism<\/i> Jury, has addressed it. They offer an interpretation\u00a0 of 10 words of the Italian language related to the world of culture and\u00a0 design, and namely ethics, form, future, idea, innovation, interaction, intuition, project, research, vision.
<\/i>As you may recall,\u00a0 in March we launched the “First Italian Design Day in the World” -an ‘absolute premiere’ that featured\u00a0 100 events in as many cities in the world.\u00a0 On that occasion, I said that design teaches us to be open to innovation, with neither fear, nor prejudice.
<\/i>Today’s event is yet another concrete example of this idea. I believe that\u00a0 design should be based on the freedom of taking risks. I often remind\u00a0 young men and women that there cannot be innovation without a willingness to go through a trial and\u00a0 error process. Luigi Einaudi\u00a0 used to say, “trial and error are the identifying features of free\u00a0 regimes.”
Hence, the government -as I have always maintained-\u00a0 has the task to ensure that investments in innovation allow also for risks to be taken. This will further promote\u00a0 the growth process\u00a0 we\u00a0 have started, as recent GDP data have highlighted.
Somehow design can also\u00a0 be seen as a growth model, thanks to\u00a0 its unique and extraordinary\u00a0 capability of blending culture and creativity, beauty and functionalism, while at the same time generating wealth.
It is not a\u00a0 coincidence that design is well-established in Italy, because it permeates\u00a0 culture, art, thinking processes and the Italian way of life. Its success rests on the wisdom of craftsmanship, on the spirit of\u00a0 experimentation and, above all, on the beauty of objects.
