Italian exports jumped 6.2% in the\u00a0first nine months of 2019 compared to the same period of 2018.\u00a0 Once again, exports grew more than the other\u00a0GDP components. After the record year of 2017, our trade balance recorded a\u00a0positive figure of over 35 billion euros between January and September of this\u00a0year.\u00a0The highest growth in Italian\u00a0exports was in markets outside the European Union, with Japan leading. Italian\u00a0exports grew 20.2% in the first few months of implementation of the EU-Japan\u00a0economic partnership agreement.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The main industries were pharmaceuticals (+29.2%), leather\u00a0tanning (+9.3%), clothing (+7.1%) and food, drink and tobacco products (+7%).\u00a0There has been a strong promotional push by the Italian Government and business\u00a0system in the agricultural and food industry in recent years; one of the most\u00a0successful initiatives has been the Week of Italian Cuisine in the world, which\u00a0reached its fourth edition in 2019.\u00a0These figures are very encouraging\u00a0in light of the difficult international context and protectionist tensions\u00a0affecting the global market.<\/p>\n
