On Thursday, 11 May 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m.,<\/strong> as part of the 9th edition of Farnesina Open Doors, the Farnesina will host the conference \u201cTempi difficili: Austria e Italia fra le due guerre mondiali\u201d (\u201cDifficult Times: Austria and Italy between the two World Wars\u201d)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Conceived concomitantly to the publication of the collection of Austrian diplomatic documents relative to the period between the two World Wars, the event will be attended by Italian and Austrian historians who will analyse and compare the Italian-Austrian relations of the time, also in the light of the publication by Italy of the most significant documents on the matter.<\/p>\n

The conference will be opened with a greeting by the Head of the Foreign Ministry\u2019s Analysis, Programming, Statistics and Historical Documentation Unit (UAP-SDS), Plenipotentiary Minister Armando Barucco, and by the Austrian Ambassador in Rome, Ren\u00e9 Pollitzer. The day\u2019s agenda includes a presentation by the director of the Austrian Historical Institute in Rome, Andreas Gottsmann, and contributions by Prof Arnold Suppan (Austrian Academy of Science, Vienna) and by Prof Federico Scarano (University of Naples).<\/p>\n

The event will close with a Round Table on \u201cItaly and Austria and the new Europe 1918-1938\u201d, moderated by the correspondent of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation ORF, Mathilde Schwabeneder.<\/p>\n
