Thanks to today\u2019s event, the United Nations \u2013 through\u00a0UNODC, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime \u2013 has relaunched the Campaign that officially kicked off in 2009 with the aim of promoting a more extensive implementation of the Palermo Convention\u2019s Additional Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons.<\/p>\n<p>In announcing Italy\u2019s participation in the Campaign, the Italian Ambassador to the United Nations Office at Vienna, Maria Assunta Accili, recalled the importance of civil society organizations, associations and non-governmental organizations in combating trafficking, and especially in protecting the victims, as well as the\u00a0\u00a0one-million-dollar contribution that Italy has made to the UN Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<i>Blue Heart\u00a0<\/i>Campaign aims to encourage the Institutions of member States to combat trafficking and raise the awareness of public opinion on the case of the victims through public communication activities\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unodc.org\/blueheart\/en\/-about-the-blue-heart\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.unodc.org\/blueheart\/en\/-about-the-blue-heart&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1558508511085000&#038;usg=AFQjCNGPlbczg1YYIxWdHftzEi_0IruMFg\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.unodc.org\/<wbr \/>blueheart\/en\/-about-the-blue-<wbr \/>heart<\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Italy joined the United Nations\u00a0Blue Heart\u00a0Campaign against Human Trafficking at the High-Level Event held in Vienna today\u00a0concomitantly with the opening of the 28th\u00a0Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
