The international conference \u201cPathways for a more inclusive and accountable Security Council\u201d on the reform of the UN Security Council, hosted by Italy in its capacity of \u201cfocal point\u201d of the Uniting for Consensus group, concluded today.<\/p>\n
The event was divided into two sessions that offered an opportunity for open and constructive dialogue on all the main issues which are being discussed within the Inter-Governmental Negotiations under way on the United Nations Security Council reform (veto, working methods, relations between the Council and the General Assembly, categories of membership \u2013 permanent and non-permanent seats \u2013 regional representation and the size of the future Council), in the view\u00a0 of increasing its representativeness, transparency, efficiency and accountability.<\/p>\n
The meeting, which lasted two days, offered a useful opportunity for an evaluation of the various hypotheses and visions emerging from negotiations, in the view of identifying points of convergences and a further analysis of those aspects that remain controversial, with the objective of fostering the broadest possible consensus among UN Member States.
