Today,\u00a0at Palazzo della Consulta,\u00a0the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, accompanied by the Secretary-General,\u00a0\u00a0Elisabetta Belloni, and the President of the Constitutional Court, Paolo Grossi, commemorated\u00a0the fallen victims of the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Colonies in World War I.<\/p>\n
Both the Farnesina and the Constitutional Court wished to remember the employees of the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Colonies who sacrificed their lives for their country during the war.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt almost a century since the end of the conflict, this ceremony serves a dual purpose\u201d said Minister Alfano. \u201cWhile we honour the public servants who lost their lives in that dramatic period, we would also like to recall a period that helped shape the identity of the country. One of the foundations of Italy\u2019s foreign policy is the promotion of international peace and security. The actions we take as current President of the UN Security Council are based on that very principle\u201d.<\/p>\n
Minister Alfano and President Grossi paid tribute to the fallen victims by observing a minute of silence before entering the Palazzo della Consulta, where two tombstones lie in memory of the victims.
