To this end, it is essential to cooperate with the opposition. With regard to regional matters, Alfano underlined that “the widening policy is and must remain the principal route to promoting peace, democracy and stability in the Western Balkans and\u00a0 allowing economic development.\u00a0With this in mind, while holding the Presidency of the Western Balkans Process, we have decided to focus our efforts on a number of strategic priorities: the development of regional connectivity, innovation, as well as cooperation to promote the rule of law and the fight against corruption and organised crime\u201d.<\/p>\n
The two ministers also discussed migration issues. For Alfano \u201cthe crisis on the Western Balkans route has demonstrated that cooperation with the countries of origin and transit is crucial.
