The meeting, organised by the <br \/>\u00a0the US rotating presidency, was chaired by US Secretary of State Tillerson and opened by a briefing from U.N. Secretary General Guterres.<\/p>\n<p>Della Vedova expressed Italy&#8217;s firm condemnation of North Korea&#8217;s nuclear and missile programme, which he said represents a threat to international peace and security, as well to the non-proliferation regime. Undersecretary Della Vedova pointed out the contribution of Italy, that holds the presidency of the Committe on the sanctions against North Korea (Committee 1728), on the full implementation of sanctions, the importance of sanctions in creating the conditions for a peaceful solution to the crisis and the willingness of Italy to support the adoption of other sanctions if North Korea continues to violate its international obligations.
