The virtual meeting\u00a0has taken\u00a0place a few days after Minister Di Maio\u2019s talks with his counterpart Mr. Jaishankar on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign\/Development Summit in Matera,\u00a0showing\u00a0the countries&#8217; commitment to\u00a0enhance\u00a0the all-round revival of bilateral relations.<\/p>\n<p>The Foreign Minister\u00a0has\u00a0pointed out that, despite the COVID-19 crisis, several Italian companies have continued to invest in various strategic sectors of the Indian economy, such as automotive, food processing and energy transition. This result\u00a0has also been\u00a0achieved thanks to the new institutional tools \u2013 the Fast-Track Mechanism and the Permanent Digital Platform for Economic Cooperation \u2013 put in place to facilitate market access and investment. The two\u00a0Ministers have\u00a0also agreed to deepen cooperation in the field of food processing and to explore new opportunities in the textile and leather sectors.\u00a0To this end, they\u00a0have\u00a0decided to set up as many sectoral working groups. Ministers Di Maio and Goyal\u00a0have also\u00a0agreed on the importance of deepening the Italy-India partnership and joint\u00a0investment\u00a0in third countries.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Di Maio\u00a0has also\u00a0focused, in particular, on the commitment to develop a strong partnership on innovation and start-ups, stressing the importance of Indian participation in the upcoming \u201cG20 Innovation League\u201d to be held on the sidelines of the Sorrento Trade Ministerial meeting. Welcoming the outcome of the recent EU-India summit in Porto, Minister Di Maio\u00a0has\u00a0reiterated Italy&#8217;s support to reviving negotiations on the free trade agreement, while hoping for the conclusion of agreements on investment protection and the protection of Geographical Indications.<\/p>\n<p>The Joint Commission\u00a0has ended\u00a0with a session on energy transition attended by the\u00a0Heads\u00a0of some of the major Italian and Indian companies operating in the sector.\u00a0While\u00a0stressing the high potential of a strategic partnership between the two countries in the field of energy transition,\u00a0Minister Di Maio has\u00a0emphasised Italy&#8217;s commitment \u2013 through the G20 Presidency and the partnership on COP26 with the United Kingdom \u2013 to raise the level of ambition of the international community on the fight against climate change and accelerate the spread of renewable sources.
