The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, expressed great satisfaction for the appointment of Prof Stefania Giannini as Assistant Director General for Education of UNESCO. \u201cIt is reason of great pride for us to see an Italian academic personality of high standing such as Stefania Giannini being conferred an appointment of this importance and sensitivity,\u201d said Minister Alfano on commenting the news.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith this appointment, Director-General Azoulay has acknowledged the undoubted qualities and competences of the former Minister of Education, University and Research and, at the same time, Italy\u2019s constant and growing engagement in the Organisation. This acknowledgment, which is the result of a thorough selection process, is a further stimulus to intensify our action to support and promote the values underpinning UNESCO\u2019s mandate, in terms of budget resources (more than one third of the total) and of personnel; under its competence are also 7 specialised institutions and a technical and vocational training centre.
