\u00a0Italian architecture in the third millennium, spanning from its history to research and innovation:\u00a0\u201cLittle Utopias\u201d, an exhibition on Italy\u2019s \u201cnew\u201d style in architecture was presented by the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,\u00a0the Maxxi National Museum of 21st<\/sup>\u00a0Century Art of Rome, the Universidad de Navarra and the Delegations of the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos Vasco Navarro in Guip\u00fazcoa and in Vizcaya.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The exhibition, designed and curated by MAXXI Architecture, will be hosted by the Delegations of the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos Vasco Navarro in Guip\u00fazcoa and in Vizcaya, respectively from 10 May to 4 June at the Delegation headquarters in San Sebasti\u00e1n and from 7 June to 31 July at the Bilbao headquarters. The exhibition explores the best talents of Italian architecture in three parallel directions: the authors, the projects and the themes, displaying the buildings or projects realised by highlighting not only the knack for imagining daring and convincing architectural solutions but also the capacity to convert them into an inhabited reality, without the transition having to sacrifice the integrity and beauty of the design.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Finland – Composer Antonio Coppola to perform in Helsinki in May<\/p>\n

The Italian composer and orchestra conductor, Antonio Coppola, will be in Helsinki next week. He will accompany on the piano the screening of two major films in the history of Finnish cinema.<\/p>\n

Victor Sjostrom’s ‘The Wind’ (1928) will be the first film screened on Monday 15 May at Cinema Orion. It will be followed by a lecture entitled “Music in Cinema”, in which Coppola will focus on the relationship between these two worlds, offering live examples. Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau’s film “The Last Laughter” (1924) will be screened on Wednesday, 17 May<\/p>\n

The initiative was organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in Helsinki and the National Audiovisual Institute KAVI, in cooperation with Sibelius Academy and the Aalto University. Born in Rome in 1956, Antonio Coppola is a composer, orchestra conductor, pianist and professor of international stature. He is well known for having brought musical innovations to silent cinema during his 40-year-long professional career.<\/p>\n

Canada – Cinema, Paola Cortellesi and Christian De Sica super-guest stars at the ICFF<\/p>\n

The 2017 edition of the\u00a0Italian Contemporary Film Festival (ICFF), the festival offering the best of Italian film productions in six Canadian cities from 8 to 16 June, is due to set new box-office records. In addition to Toronto, Montreal and the other cities involved in the previous editions, this year the ICFF will extend to the city of Vancouver, on the Country\u2019s West Coast. Out of the 180 screenings programmed, numerous will be world premieres in North America. Some of the partners of the ICFF include the Italian Embassy and Consulates General and the Italian Cultural Institutes in Toronto and Montreal. Super-guest stars at the ICFF this year are Paola Cortellesi and Christian De Sica, who will receive the prestigious lifetime achievement award which has previously been given to great film actors of the calibre of\u00a0Al Pacino, Roberto Benigni, Carlo Verdone and Claudia Cardinale. In Canada De Sica will be presenting two of his latest works, \u201cPoveri ma ricchi\u201d and \u201cFra\u00fclein-Una fiaba d\u2019inverno\u201d (\u201cFra\u00fclein-A Winter\u2019s Tale\u201d). The popular Roman-born actor will also present \u201cMarriage Italian Style\u201d, one of the masterpieces directed by his father Vittorio, in a very special event aimed at creating a virtual bridge between the father\u2019s genius and the son\u2019s versatility in acting. Another very talented Italian film star, Paola Cortellesi, will attend this edition of the\u00a0ICFF in Canada with two of her films:\u00a0\u201cQualcosa di nuovo\u201d directed by Cristina Comencini and \u201cMamma o Pap\u00e0?\u201d by Riccardo Milani, the actress\u2019s real-life husband. At the festival will be another two great Italian film stars: Giancarlo Giannini and Franco Nero, who both play in the film \u201cThe Neighborhood \/ Il Quartiere\u201d, which will make its world debut in Toronto. New Yorker Danny Aiello, together with other international film stars, will also be among the guests of the 9-day Festival. Alan Barillaro, director of Piper, the Oscar prize-winner for the best animated short film for 2017, will attend the Festival from Los Angeles. At the Festival\u2019s closing gala to take place at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Toronto, a special tribute will be paid to the Pixar Animation Studios for their hits \u201cThe Incredibles\u201d, \u201cFinding Nemo\u201d and \u201cMonsters & Co.\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
