The Italian Embassy in Beijing, in conjunction with the EU Delegation, is organising \u00a0a \u00a0half-day seminar in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaties of Rome. The seminar will be hosted at\u00a0Renmin (People’s) University of China, an academic institution\u00a0which has one of\u00a0China’s most specialised European Studies departments. \u00a0<\/p>\n
The Seminar will be divided into two\u00a0sessions.\u00a0Outcomes, challenges and future prospects of the EU at 27 will be analised during Session 1, while\u00a0Session 2\u00a0will focus on the relations between China and the European Union today and discuss future prospects.<\/p>\n
Introductory addresses will be delivered by the Vice-President of Renmin Daxue, Yi Zhihong, by the head of the Delegation of the European Union to China, Ambassador \u00a0Hans Dietmar Schweisgut and by the Italian Ambassador to China, Ettore Francesco Sequi.\u00a0All presenters will engag\u00e9 in a debate on the European Union with the participating students, in an effort to respond to their questions.\u00a0Michel Malherbe,\u00a0Ambassador of Belgium,\u00a0Marja Rislakki, Ambassador of\u00a0Finland and\u00a0Bed\u0159ich Kopeck\u00fd, Ambassador of\u00a0the Czeck Republic to China, as well as\u00a0Prof. Cui Hongjian, Director of the Department of European Studies of the China Institute of International Studies, and Joerg Wuttke, President of the European Chamber of Commerce in China, will be among the distinguished guests attending the seminar.<\/p>\n
Prior to\u00a0the seminar, \u00a0Ambassador Sequi will open the exhibition titled “Ever Closer Union: the\u00a0legacy of the Treaties of Rome for the future of the EU”<\/em><\/strong>, which showcases documents and images from the historic archives of the European Union, the Historic Archive of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the ANSA Archives.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n A virtual version of the exhibition has been made available on ‘wechat’, the social platform, to help spreading the knowledge about and the understanding of the\u00a0themes presented in the exhibition.
