\u200b”The Treaties of Rome: the EU is 60 years old.\u00a0Is it too young or too old?\u201d was the provocative title chosen for the round table organised by the Italian Embassy in Sofia to mark the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome. The event took place on 10 March 2017 at the St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia and was organised with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Sofia.<\/p>\n
The event, which was held in the prestigious Assembly Hall of the University, was opened by the Deputy Prime Minister with responsibility for Foreign Affairs, Denitsa Zlateva, and the Rector of the University of Sofia, Prof. Atanas Gerdjikov. \u00a0In addition to over 30 accredited ambassadors, the event was attended by representatives of civil society and the Bulgarian academic world, as well as a group of 26 young diplomats. The four speakers:\u00a0Prof. Raimondo Cagiano de Azevedo, professor of Demographics at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, Solomon Passy, Founder and President of the Atlantic Club Bulgaria and former Foreign Affairs Minister of Bulgaria, Prof. Ingrid Shikova, professor of European Politics at the University of Sofia and Ognian Zlatev, Head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria,\u00a0provided much food for thought on the evolution of the European integration process, sparking a lively debate with the audience.<\/p>\n
