The story takes place in the 1600s. A queen can no longer smile, two sisters make up a misunderstanding to attract the attention of a king while another sovereign organises a joust in which to marry off his daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Matteo Garrone draws freely from three stories in \u201cLo cunto de li cunti\u201d, a collection of fables written in old Neapolitan language by Giambattista Basile between 1500 and 1600. \u201cIl racconto dei racconti\u201d \u2013 nominee for the Palme d\u2019Or at the Cannes Festival in 2015 \u2013 has won three Nastri d\u2019Argento and seven David Di Donatello (starring Salma Hayek, John C. Reilly, Christian Lees, Alba Rohrwacher.
