He has a degree in Law from the University of Rome.<\/p>\n<p>From 2004 to 2008 he was appointed assistant to the President of Confindustria and in charge of international affairs and subsequently Director of Strategic Areas. Prior to that, he was head of product marketing and programming for Sky Italia, and later head of relations with customers and financial institutions for Ferrari. \u00a0From 2008 to 2013 he held the position of Director General of Interporto Campano.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2013 he was appointed Deputy Minister for Economic Development in the Government led by Enrico Letta, taking on the portfolio for internationalisation and international trade policies.<\/p>\n<p>In February 2014 the current Government confirmed him at the head of international commerce and of the promotion of trade and in charge of policies to attract foreign investments, with the power to orient the policies of the Italian Trade Agency, ICE. His portfolio included powers over the following areas: the EU\u2019s commercial policy, multilateral trade relations within the WTO, trade-related issues discussed at OECD and G20 level, Italy\u2019s bilateral trade relations, export credit and financing and supporting investments abroad.<\/p>\n<p>He was a member of the EU Foreign Affairs Council \u201cTrade\u201d (which he chaired during the Italian presidency of the EU Council in the second semester of 2014) and Vice Chair of the 10<sup>th<\/sup> WTO Ministerial Conference in December 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"This is to inform that Italy\u2019s Council of Ministers recently approved the appointment of Carlo Calenda as Italy\u2019s Permanent Representative to the European Union.
