The second season of the\u00a0Viva Rossini! 2016\u00a0cycle, has come to its fifth and last 2016 screening. The initiative, organized by the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Sydney in conjunction with the Pesaro Rossini Opera Festival- ROF, presented a selection of movies of\u00a0operas by the famous Italian composer from Pesaro. Matilde of Shabran, or Beauty and Heart of Iron, a melodrama giocoso, will be screened on Friday, 18 November.<\/p>\n
The film, directed by Mario Martone, features\u00a0Michele Mariotti and Lorenzo Fratini, respectively the conductor and chorus master of the Orchestra and Choir of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. The interpreters are:\u00a0 Olga Peretyatko (Matilde di Shabran),\u00a0Anna Goryachova\u00a0(Edoardo),\u00a0Marco Filippo Romano\u00a0(Raimondo Lopez),\u00a0Juan Diego Florez\u00a0(Corradino),\u00a0Simon Orfila\u00a0(Ginandro),\u00a0Nicola Alaimo\u00a0(Aliprando), Paolo Bordogna\u00a0(Isidoro),\u00a0Chiara Chialli\u00a0(Contessa d\u2019Arco),\u00a0Giorgio Misseri(Egoldo),\u00a0Ugo Rosati\u00a0(Rodrigo). The film is a ROF\/Unitel Classica production of 2012.\u00a0 Matilde of Shabran is a melodramma giocoso in two acts\u00a0\u00a0by Gioachino Rossini to a libretto by Giacomo Ferretti. It premiered in Rome, at the Teatro Apollo on February 24, 1821, to a rather cold\u00a0 reception with the audience. Although Niccolo’ Paganini was the orchestral conductor, and much of the opera’s music was brilliant and original, Matilde of Shabran got has many catcalls in the audience as there was applause.
