{"id":52388,"date":"2016-10-31T11:12:46","date_gmt":"2016-10-31T10:12:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/comunicati\/2016\/10\/la-farnesina-al-festival-della-2\/"},"modified":"2016-10-31T11:12:46","modified_gmt":"2016-10-31T10:12:46","slug":"la-farnesina-al-festival-della-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/en\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/approfondimenti\/2016\/10\/la-farnesina-al-festival-della-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The Foreign Ministry at the Genoa Science Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hydrogen propulsion, science for peace and space archaeology are the themes chosen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) to illustrate the contribution that \u2018scientific diplomacy\u2019 can make in internationalising Italy\u2019s research and innovation systems at the 2016 edition of the <strong>Genoa Science Festival.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The three themes were the focus of a meeting held last 28 October at the \u201cSala del Maggior Consiglio\u201d of the Ducal Palace of Genoa, which was divided into three panels of debate held in parallel and moderated by the Scientific Attach\u00e9s of the MAECI, with the contribution of Italian scientists from Universities and Research Centres and representatives of innovative companies involved in international cooperation efforts.<\/p>\n<p>The panel \u201cHydrogen (H): the sign of the third millennium for sustainable mobility\u201d was moderated by\u00a0Jos\u00e8\u00a0M. Kenny, the Scientific Attach\u00e9 at the Italian Embassy in Buenos Aires. He said: \u201c<i>Hydrogen-powered vehicles consume less, are not polluting, are quiet and reliable but their distribution still has to be systematically optimised. Thanks to an international cooperative effort<\/i> <i>by researchers worldwide, and to the financial support of the MAECI, materials and systems have been developed whose costs are now close to those of traditional solutions.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0 The following contributions were by\u00a0Maria\u00a0Peressi, from the Department of Physics of the University of Trieste,\u00a0Francesco Bonaccorso,\u00a0from the Genoa-based Italian Institute of Technology,\u00a0Gianni\u00a0Bidini,\u00a0from the Department of Engineering of the University of Perugia, and Mario Damiani,\u00a0from the Hydrogen\u00a0Park\u00a0S.c.a.r.l. in Venice.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cSigns of Peace\u201d panel addressed the importance of science and of scientific diplomacy in re-establishing dialogue and favouring peace processes between conflicting Countries. The panel was moderated by Stefano Boccaletti,\u00a0Scientific Attach\u00e9 at the Italian Embassy in Tel Aviv, who said: <i>\u201cScientific research, thanks to its universal nature, opens bridges of dialogue between peoples, removes barriers of diffidence and tears down the walls that still exist in geopolitical scenarios.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0Other contributions were made by Giorgio Paolucci, Scientific Director of the SESAME Project;\u00a0Maurizio\u00a0Fermeglia, Rector of the University of Trieste;\u00a0Itamar\u00a0Procaccia, winner of the Rita Levi Montalcini Prize for scientific cooperation between Italy and Israele;\u00a0Riccardo\u00a0Signorato, from CINEL Strumenti\u00a0Scientifici.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<i>Satellites, with their formidable potential, are opening new ground for archaeological research.
