Montenegro’s Primer Minister Milo Djukanovic expressed his deep satisfaction about the state of political and economic cooperation with Italy. Mr Diukanovic also stressed the importance of the Italian Presidency of the “Berlin Process” for the Western Balkans. <\/p>\n
“Montenegro and Italy celebrate ten years of diplomatic relations, but our friendship\u00a0dates back to long before the establishment of our current State, ” Premier Djukanovic said in an interview with ANSA news agency. He also said that “political contacts between Italy and Montenegro are excellent. We are also very pleased with the development of our economic cooperation, above all in the field of energy,” citing, among other things, the presence of A2A in Montenegro (partner to Elektroprivreda) and Terna (a grid operator constructing a\u00a0submarine\u00a0cable between Italy and Montenegro). He also spoke of the Italian-Russian consortium Eni-Novatek that was awarded a contract for the extraction of oil and gas in the Montenegrin seabed.”We consider extremely important that Italy will host the upcoming summit of the Western Balkans in the framework of the Berlin Process”, Mr Djukanovic said, adding that it ”opened the way to a new EU enlargement policy, and for us citizens of the Balkans, it has given rise to new hopes”. Therefore it is desirable to press ahead with economic and infrastructure development and: “We hope that Italy, which is our neighbour, will give a special contribution to it.” Prime Minister Djukanovic also said that:” We expect Confindustria to take opportunity of the Italian Presidency and boost the cooperation between our enterprises.
