Next 5 July, the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Berlin will pay a tribute to one of the most important authors of Italian 20<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Century literature, whose work includes novels, short stories, plays and essays, excerpts of which will be read by film and theatre star Mechthild Gro\u00dfmann. The event, scheduled at 7 p.m. in the courtyard of the Italian Embassy or, in case of bad weather, inside the IIC, will open with remarks by Carlo Ginzburg (Natalia\u2019s son and an eminent historian and essayist) and with an introduction by Susanne Sch\u00fcssler. Having grown up among Turin\u2019s anti-fascist intelligentsia, Natalia Ginzburg made her literary debut in 1942 with a novelette, \u201cLa strada che va in citt\u00e0\u201d which, for racial reasons, she published under the pseudonym of Alessandra Tornimparte. She later published other novelettes and a few novels (\u201cTutti i nostri ieri\u201d, 1952; \u201cCaro Michele\u201d, 1973; \u201cLa citt\u00e0 e la casa\u201d, 1984), two books half-way between an essay form and an autobiography (\u201cLe piccole virt\u00f9\u201d, 1962; \u201cFamily Sayings\u201d &#8211; \u201cLessico famigliare\u201d- 1963) and a book combining the essay form and a novel (\u201cLa famiglia Manzoni\u201d, 1983).\u00a0Natalia Ginzburg was also a playwright (\u201cI Married You for Fun\u201d &#8211; \u201cTi ho sposato per allegria\u201d \u2013 \u201cThe Advertisement &#8211; \u201cL\u2019inserzione\u201d &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u201cLa segretaria\u201d, \u201cPaese di mare\u201d, etc., which were united in the volumes \u201cTi ho sposato per allegria e altre commedie\u201d, 1966, and \u201cPaese di mare\u201d, 1973).\u00a0In 2016 \u201cUn\u2019assenza.
