The migration crisis was the focus of the meeting between the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, Karl Erjavec, which took place today, 10 November 2015, at the Farnesina.<\/p>\n
The meeting was held during a period marked by the migration crisis in the Balkans, a crisis that is having a direct impact on Slovenia. As Minister Gentiloni observed, the country \u201chas maintained a constructive and responsible attitude in the face of migratory pressures that have required over 150,000 arrivals to be managed since October, with peaks of about 12,000 per day\u201d. As Gentiloni reiterated, \u201cnot least in the light of the imminent summit in La Valletta, a European response to the migration crisis is vital. So too is the need for a general review of the Dublin system, which has proved to be ineffective in managing the migration crisis and the refugees themselves\u201d.<\/p>\n
The meeting confirmed the importance of Italy\u2019s role in the stabilisation and integration of the Balkans and provided an opportunity for an exchange of views on regional issues.
