The seminar focused on the effects of mercury exposure on people living in the mining regions in the west of the island of Sumbawa, in Taliwang district. The project was implemented thanks to a grant issued by the Italian Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n
A multi-media documentary was also produced to illustrate mining activities and the research project itself, with a view to raising awareness of the problem of mercury contamination. The seminar was coordinated by Ivano Vassura from the University of Bologna in collaboration with Maywin Dwi Asmara, from Universitas Mataram, and Elisabetta Zavoli, a photographer with a science background.
