The extermination of the Jews in Greece\u201d. Organised by the Italian Cultural Institute, the event is part of the international Holocaust Remembrance initiatives and commemorates, in particular, Italy\u2019s attempt to save as many Jews as possible \u2013 including non-Italians to whom false travel documents were issued \u2013 by sending them to Athens. Their safety only proved temporary, however, as after Italy\u2019s capitulation in September 1943, the situation worsened, leading to eventual exterminations.
