The Italian Cultural Institute organised a concert featuring renowned Italian jazz trumpet player Paolo Fresu accompanied by Philadelphia pianist Uri Caine at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat.<\/p>\n
The concert was called “THINK!” taken from their album of the same name and was attended by about 1000 spectators, with the main national TV and radio networks covering it.<\/p>\n
Fresu and Caine interpreted a number of standard jazz pieces during the evening, along with masterpieces of Italian classical music and some original compositions. The two artists were enthusiastically applauded by the public who appreciated the intensity and profundity of the arrangement of\u00a0“Si’ dolce e’ il tormento\u201d,<\/i>\u00a0composed by Claudio Monteverdi in 1624, some pieces from\u00a0\u201cNorma\u201d<\/i>\u00a0by Vincenzo Bellini,\u00a0\u201cLascia ch’io pianga”<\/i>\u00a0by Handel and two Bach minuets. Of course, their reinterpretations of jazz classics such as\u00a0\u201cI loves you Porgy\u201d<\/i>\u00a0by Gershwin and pieces by Miles Davis and Oscar Peterson also enthralled the spectators who were touched by the musician\u2019s decision to dedicate his new composition \u201cVolubilis\u201d – from the name of the Roman city near Meknes – to Morocco.<\/p>\n
