The Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, which is competent for human rights issues, has adopted a Resolution on combating the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Adopted by consensus today in New York, the Resolution had 125 co-sponsors, 21 more than the previous text of 2012. The General Assembly will adopt the Resolution definitively in December 2014. <\/P>

Italy has traditionally been one of the Resolution\u2019s promoters, together with international partners \u2013 especially those representing the regions most badly affected by the phenomenon. <\/P>

The adoption of the FGM Resolution marks another success for Italy\u2019s work to protect women and children\u2019s rights.
