Sri Lanka celebrates Contemporary Art Day. To\u00a0celebrate the Day, for the first time the Italian Embassy organised a series of\u00a0events in Colombo with the participation of art gallery owner Susanna Orlando of\u00a0the Galleria di Pietrasanta. Of the two principal events, one was organised in cooperation\u00a0with one of the most prestigious local art galleries and was dedicated to Sri\u00a0Lankan collectors, and the other was dedicated to the students of the Art\u00a0Department of the local University.<\/p>\n
The two events mainly focused on the\u00a0evolution of Italian contemporary art after World War II but also tackled\u00a0different issues to better satisfy the interests of the audience. The\u00a0collectors were illustrated the main trends in Italian contemporary art, through\u00a0an overview of the best-known artists at international level. Instead, the\u00a0event dedicated to the students consisted of a lesson on Italian art history, a\u00a0subject which is not included in the student\u2019s curriculum, and especially focused\u00a0on giving practical advice to those who intend to internationalise their\u00a0artistic careers.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The hall that hosted the event dedicated to students\u00a0was crowded with an audience of 400 students and the faculty, who expressed the\u00a0intention to include a course on Italian art history as a teaching subject.\u00a0Moreover, the collectors were given the opportunity to admire nearly twenty\u00a0works by young talents, accompanied by a short catalogue, at the Residence of\u00a0the Italian Ambassador.<\/p>\n
