Tensions in the Middle East and bilateral Israeli-Italian relations were the focus of the 5th meeting of the Italian-Israeli Strategic Dialogue meeting which took place at the Farnesina today, 13 November 2014. The delegations from the two countries\u2019 foreign ministries were led by the Farnesina\u2019s Secretary General, Michele Valensise, and his Israeli counterpart, Nissim Ben-Shetrit.<\/P>

Topics discussed included initiatives by Italy and the international community for the stabilisation of Libya, the continuing violence in Syria, concerns over developments in Iraq and Italy\u2019s commitment to protect populations threatened by the advance of ISIS. The meeting provided an opportunity to assess on-going and future Italian-Israeli collaboration in the economic, cultural, scientific and technological fields. <\/P>

\u201cWe had a broad-ranging and fruitful exchange of views on topical issues of common interest, and an open discussion on the outlook for peace in the Middle East\u201d, declared Ambassador Valensise at the end of the meeting. \u201cThis confirms the sound relations between Italy and Israel and both countries\u2019 determination to strengthen political consultation and further develop existing collaborative projects\u201d.
