The event was attended by the Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities,\u00a0<strong>Alberto Bonisoli<\/strong>, the Italian Ambassador in London,\u00a0<strong>Raffaele Trombetta<\/strong>, Carabinieri Commander for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Brigadier General\u00a0<strong>Fabrizio Parrulli,<\/strong>\u00a0, the Chief Executive Officer of Christie\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Guillaume Cerutti<\/strong>\u00a0and the auction house\u2019s Deputy Chief Executive Officer,\u00a0<strong>Stephen Brooks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The restitution of the works was made possible thanks to the preparatory work carried out by the Embassy and to the trusting and cooperative relationship that it built with Christie\u2019s over time, now put into practice for the first time through a very close cooperation between the Italian State and a private auction house.\u00a0\u00a0The objects returned to Italy include: an Etruscan terracotta antefix from the 6<sup>th<\/sup>-5<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0century BC and a Falisco red-figure stamnos from the 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0century BC; five Egnazia-style plates from the 4<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0century BC; a red-figure<i>\u00a0hydra apula<\/i>\u00a0from 350-330 BC; a Roman capital dated to the 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0century AD from illegal excavations; a fragment of marble from a Roman sarcophagus taken from the San Callisto catacombs; a Roman marble relief with Satyr and Maenad stolen from the Villa Borghese gardens in 1985;\u00a0\u00a0a Greek glass\u00a0<i>oinochoe\u00a0<\/i>and the page of an illuminated code.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This restitution represents an important achievement in the protection of Italy\u2019s cultural heritage and testifies to the effective cooperation established between our Country and important actors in the art market like Christie\u2019s in combating the illegal smuggling of artworks.
