The Embassy of Italy in Israel and the Italian Cultural Institute of Tel Aviv have organised a series of online scientific meetings in partnership with The Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research (a faculty of the Ben Gurion University of the Negev), centred on the relationship between man and mountain, called \u201cSo Harsh, So Fragile: Exploring the Relationship among Man, Mountain and Dryland\u201d.<\/p>\n
At the photographic exhibition \u201cItalian Routes. The Italian Mountains, Climate Change and Mountaineering\u201d, Italian and Israeli researchers describe the impact of climate change on ecosystems and on mountain and desert region peoples.<\/p>\n
The first meeting, \u201cGlaciers and arid areas. The impact of climate change\u201d, will be held on the WebEx platform today, 19 January (3:00 pm) and will be moderated by Stefano Ventura, the Embassy of Italy\u2019s Science Attach\u00e9. The meeting will feature three presentations: \u201cAre glaciers the water reservoirs of our planet? Predictions on the impact of retreating glaciers in Europe and on Asia\u2019s high mountain ranges\u201d, by Guglielmina Diolaiuti and Davide Fugazza (Department of Science and Environmental Policies, Universit\u00e0 Statale, Milan); \u201cAncient techniques for solving future problems\u201d, by Pedro Berliner (FAAB-BIDR-Ben Gurion University of the Negev); \u201cAnthropocentric or biocentric?\u201d, by physician and mountaineer Paola Virginia Gigliotti.<\/p>\n
