The modular installation consisting of three neon light sculptures illuminating the exhibition areas poses three questions: \u201cWhat is the value of art?\u201d, \u201cWhat is the sense of education?\u201d, \u201cWhat is the meaning of experience?\u201d. The Milanese artist leaves it up to us to answer these open-ended questions.<\/p>\n<p>The gallery that hosts Orlando\u2019s installation is part of a modern school of design, hence those who must come up with an answer to the artist\u2019s questions are young people (students) rather than adults (teachers); indeed, aside from meditating on Rocco Orlando\u2019s neon words, students can ask themselves more questions and make further considerations as to how to improve schools and society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>I fondamentali\u2019<\/em>\u2019 was thought up for the artistic project Cantica21, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, which aims at enhancing Italian contemporary art, supporting the production of artworks by both emerging and accomplished artists, showcasing them in Italian Cultural Institutes, Embassies and Consulates through an art exhibition spread across several world cities.<\/p>\n<p>Valerio Rocco Orlando\u2019s project was one of the 45 selected from the 293 submitted. An artist and multimedia drama teacher at the Accademia di Brera, Orlando has worked with philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy, composer Michael Nyman, artists Gilbert &amp; George, Ugo Rondinone, and Liam Gillick, actors Saleh Bakri and Alba Rohrwacher, singer Amalia Gr\u00e8 and psychoanalyst Luigi Zoja.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Only a few days left to visit the exhibition \u201cI fondamentali\u201d, by artist Valerio Rocco Orlando, staged at the Sumec Gallery in Bratislava by the local Italian Cultural Institute.
