{"id":71120,"date":"2022-01-28T12:51:58","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T11:51:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/\/2022\/01\/giorno-memoria-abu-dhabi-proiettatodocumentario-di-katzir\/"},"modified":"2022-01-31T09:10:45","modified_gmt":"2022-01-31T08:10:45","slug":"giorno-memoria-abu-dhabi-proiettatodocumentario-di-katzir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/en\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/retediplomatica\/2022\/01\/giorno-memoria-abu-dhabi-proiettatodocumentario-di-katzir\/","title":{"rendered":"International Holocaust Remembrance Day: Kaztir\u2019s documentary screened in Abu Dhabi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 27 January, the Italian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates and the Italian Cultural Institute in Abu Dhabi commemorated the International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a joint initiative, organised \u2013 for the first time \u2013 in conjunction with Dubai\u2019s \u201cCrossroads of Civilizations Museum,\u201d which has been hosting, since last year, \u201c<em>We Remember<\/em>,\u201d the first permanent gallery dedicated to the Holocaust in the Arab world.<\/p>\n<p>The recurring event \u2013 which included the testimony of Holocaust survivor Emil Fish and was attended, among others, by the Ambassadors of Germany and Canada \u2013 featured the screening of the 2015 documentary film \u201cShores of Light, Salento 1945-1947\u201d by Israeli film director Yael Kaztir, entirely set in Santa Maria di Leuca in the past and present day. It\u2019s a story of rebirth, which focuses on dialogue and on the persistence of memory, following an ideal common thread that connects the generations that suffered the horror of the Holocaust first-hand and Italy\u2019s current young generation.<\/p>\n<p>Taking the floor, Ambassador Nicola Lener stressed how important it is to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive, handing down to the new generations the values described in the documentary, of integration, inclusion, and sharing, that shield our societies from the seeds of hatred and intolerance, which are always lurking everywhere.
