This was Foreign Minister Emma Bonino\u2019s comment on hearing from New York that the United Nations General Assembly had elected Italy to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for 2014-15. \u201cThe election is a recognition by the international community of Italy\u2019s work in supporting economic growth and sustainable and social development \u2013 factors that we view as vital elements of stability in relations between states\u201d. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>At the election, Italy won the highest number of votes of all candidate countries representing their regional groups, with 184 votes out of 186. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>\u201cOur success also testifies to the consensus we have built up through Italy\u2019s commitment in various UN bodies, of which ECOSOC has a key role in economic, social and environmental matters.
