{"id":7769,"date":"2013-05-31T16:53:58","date_gmt":"2013-05-31T14:53:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/comunicati\/2013\/05\/20130531_proibizionea_armi_chimiche-2\/"},"modified":"2013-05-31T16:53:58","modified_gmt":"2013-05-31T14:53:58","slug":"20130531_proibizionea_armi_chimiche","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/en\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/comunicati\/2013\/05\/20130531_proibizionea_armi_chimiche\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister for Foreign Affairs Emma Bonino expresses \u201cdeep satisfaction\u201d for Somalia&#8217;s ratification of the Chemical Weapons Convention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P>Minister for Foreign Affairs Emma Bonino expressed \u201cdeep satisfaction\u201d for Somalia&#8217;s ratification of the Chemical Weapons Convention, announced today by the Director of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) from its headquarters in The Hague.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>By this act Somalia becomes the 189th State Party to the OPCW treaty. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>\u201cThis is a major step forward and one that takes on even greater significance in light of Italy\u2019s strong efforts toward that country\u2019s stabilisation\u201d, Minister Bonino asserted. \u201cThe final goal\u201d, she underscored, \u201cis universal ratification, which Italy will continue to pursue\u201d. \u201cIt is highly positive\u201d, the minister continued, \u201cthat, in its 15 years of activity, the OPCW has fostered the destruction of 80% of the chemical weapons declared by its Member States\u201d.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The countries that have yet to ratify the Convention include Angola, the Peoples Democratic Republic of Korea, Egypt, Israel, Myanmar, South Sudan and Syria.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>With this ratification, Somalia will now have access to the OPCW international assistance and cooperation programmes funded in part by Italy through the European Union.<\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Minister for Foreign Affairs Emma Bonino expressed \u201cdeep satisfaction\u201d for Somalia&#8217;s ratification of the Chemical Weapons Convention, announced today by the Director of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) from its headquarters in The Hague.
