This was how Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi described the election of Ghassan Hitto as head of the Coalition\u2019s provisional government.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>\u201cThe international community\u201d, explained Terzi, \u201cwelcomed the message that emerged from the Rome Meeting. We are confident that the new head of the provisional government, under the leadership of Coalition President Moaz al Khatib, will help attain the democratic aspirations of the Syrian people\u201d. Minister Terzi spoke with al Khatib on the phone today, to express Italy\u2019s satisfaction with this development. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>The Farnesina has a well-established and fruitful relationship with Ghassan Hitto, until now humanitarian aid coordinator of the Syrian National Coalition. That<A name=_GoBack><\/A> relationship can now be strengthened to increase Italian assistance for the Syrian population. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>The election will strengthen the Coalition\u2019s cohesion and operational capacity and will facilitate the flow of aid, humanitarian first and foremost, within the country.
