The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, is in Berlin today to take part in two important meetings called by Germany. The first, in the G7 context, is focused primarily on Ukraine and grain exports, while the second will address food supply security.<\/p>\n
The meeting of G7 foreign ministers will focus on support for Ukraine, including in its pathway towards Europe and its resilience in the humanitarian, military and financial spheres. The ministers will also discuss grain exports, with the emphasis being placed on the global consequences of the blockage of Ukrainian grain exports, which have been drastically restricted by the conflict. The ministers will also examine the main European and international initiatives to identify alternative routes and the creation of \u201csafe corridors\u201d to resume maritime traffic.<\/p>\n
In the afternoon, Minister Di Maio will take part in the \u201cUniting for Global Food Security\u201d meeting, which will focus on the global food crisis caused by the war in Ukraine and on international coordination with respect to the countries most badly affected by the crisis. Italy, for its part, will present the initial operational follow-up to the Mediterranean Ministerial Dialogue on the food crisis organised by the Farnesina, in collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation, on 8 June 2022 in Rome. The aim of the Dialogue is to establish common lines of action to address the consequences of the conflict on the availability, and prices, of agricultural products.<\/p>\n
