{"id":8168,"date":"2012-10-23T10:07:33","date_gmt":"2012-10-23T08:07:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/comunicati\/2012\/10\/20121023_visitasomalia-2\/"},"modified":"2012-10-23T10:07:33","modified_gmt":"2012-10-23T08:07:33","slug":"20121023_visitasomalia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esteri.it\/en\/sala_stampa\/archivionotizie\/comunicati\/2012\/10\/20121023_visitasomalia\/","title":{"rendered":"Press release detail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P>Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi made a visit to Mogadishu this morning \u2013 unannounced for reasons of security \u2013 where he met at Villa Somalia with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon Saacid.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The last visit by an Italian foreign minister to Mogadishu was in 1992, and this by Minister Terzi is the only post-transition visit by a European foreign minister thus far.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>During his meetings Minister Terzi expressed \u201cItaly\u2019s full support for the Federal Republic of Somalia\u201d and, at the same time, its \u201cadoption of a Constitution respectful of fundamental human rights\u201d.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The chief of Italian diplomacy also reiterated that \u201cItaly will continue to lend its strong and determined support to Somalia in the crucial sectors of security and counter-piracy\u201d, and pursue activities of assistance already under way, particularly in the areas of justice and police, in which context Terzi also pointed out the Italian Development Cooperation\u2019s strategic role. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>The Somali President and Prime Minister communicated their \u201cgreat appreciation for the high political and symbolic value\u201d of Minister Terzi\u2019s visit.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>The foreign minister is already on his way back to Rome.<\/P><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi made a visit to Mogadishu this morning \u2013 unannounced for reasons of security \u2013 where he met at Villa Somalia with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon Saacid.
