The exhibition will be running until 18 August 2022.

The event has been co-organised with LCI Melbourne with the sponsorship of the Italian Consulate General in Melbourne. The exhibition will be the framework for a dialogue between two Italian artists from different epochs: Antonio Canova, one of the greatest sculptors of European Neoclassicism, and Mimmo Jodice, a leading interpreter of Italian and international photography: a combination that merges the ideal with the real, body and soul, matter and image.

Jodice interprets 17 of Canova’s sculptures in a total of 52 shots: four or five for each work of art. He shows different takes and perspectives while maintaining a 1:1 ratio between the sculptural detail focused on and the dimension of the photographic print. In the photographs, the works of Jodice and Canova merge into a duo, a combination, that mirrors two great artists who, together, materialize the capacity of art to evoke eternal emotions.

To mark the 200th anniversary of the death of Italian sculptor Antonio Canova (1757-1822), the Italian Cultural Institute in Melbourne announced the opening of “Jodice/Canova”, an itinerant exhibition hosted at the LCI Gallery Space in Collingwood after making a stop in Bassano del Grappa, Milan, Arezzo, Mexico City, San Marino, and Hong Kong.
