The meeting was devoted to piracy and, more specifically, the presence of armed personnel on board merchant ships to counter this phenomenon. <\/P><br \/>\n<P>During her speech, Under-Secretary Dassu&#8217; underscored Italy\u2019s commitment to ensuring the maximum security level for ships, not least through rules agreed at the international level. She pointed out that the action of the Italian Government is inspired first and foremost by compliance with international law, including in matters of flag state jurisdiction and the immunity of organs of the state.
