Vice Minister Sereni held talks, by videoconference, with the FAO Director General,\u00a0Qu Dongyu. The\u00a0talks\u00a0focused on the G20 joint Foreign Affairs and Development Ministerial\u00a0Meeting\u00a0scheduled \u00a0in Matera, on 29 June, and on the organisation of the pre-Summit\u00a0meeting\u00a0for the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit, which will be held in Rome, from 26 to 28 July.<\/p>\n
The Vice Minister emphasised that Italy is working with the other G20 partners on the issue of food security, focusing in particular on the \u201cFood Coalition\u201d initiative launched by Italy within the FAO, which has now become a central programme of the organization,\u00a0aimed at responding to the effects of the pandemic on the world\u2019s agri-food systems. \u201cItaly’s challenge,\u201d\u00a0Vice Minister\u00a0Sereni stressed, \u201cis to encourage a global mobilisation of all countries, bringing together the public and private sectors and civil society for the great common goal of achieving \u2018Zero Hunger\u2019\u201d.<\/p>\n
