The Committee for the Study and Development of International Humanitarian Law, which promotes and coordinates International Humanitarian Law at a national level, has held its third meeting at the Farnesina.
\nDeputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr Antonio Tajani, who attended the Committee meeting for the first time since he took office, warmly greeted the Committee Chair and members. The Minister stressed that Italy deems the issue crucial and that it provides the legal instruments that considerably mitigate the impact armed conflicts have on civilians. He also seized the opportunity to point out that the conflict that is geographically closest to us \u2013 the Ukrainian-Russian war \u2013 calls for a strict enforcement of the existing provisions set forth under International Humanitarian Law and that Italy is strongly committed in tangibly ensuring said enforcement.<\/p>\n
Following a tradition in which Italy has constantly striven to defend and safeguard the rights of the most vulnerable people \u2013 the Minister wrote \u2013 the presence of a dedicated National Committee gives prestige to our country and highlights the existence of the valuable inter-institutional synergy required for dealing with such a delicate matter.
