Minister Di Maio\u00a0has\u00a0first of all expressed deep concern about the escalation of attacks and violence in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, calling for an immediate end to all violence.<\/p>\n
Condemning the rocket attacks from Gaza and urging a proportionate Israeli response, he\u00a0has\u00a0reiterated his call to the parties to take immediate de-escalation measures and show responsibility.<\/p>\n
Minister\u00a0Di Maio\u00a0has\u00a0then\u00a0highlighted\u00a0the importance of the ongoing negotiations in Vienna on the revitalisation of the JCPoA and the parallel contacts with the United States, expressing the hope that a compromise might swiftly be reached on the outstanding issues. He\u00a0has reaffirmed\u00a0that the nuclear deal remains a pillar of non-proliferation and regional stability and a key element in the much hoped-for strengthening of bilateral economic cooperation.<\/p>\n
The two\u00a0Ministers\u00a0have then exchanged views on the main regional dossiers, from Iraq and Afghanistan to the crises in Syria and Yemen, regarding which Minister Di Maio\u00a0has\u00a0reiterated Italy\u2019s convinced support for a political solution.<\/p>\n
Minister Di Maio\u00a0has also drawn\u00a0attention to the human rights situation in Iran, recalling Italy’s traditional position in support of human rights and a moratorium on capital punishment.<\/p>\n
